San Diego has a thriving gay community. The crowd is diverse, skews slightly younger, and is warm and friendly days of sunshine can make one that way. To navigate San Diego, you'll need a car and a designated driver as the hot spots aren't really in walking distance of each other, but there are clusters of the great bars and clubs in Hillcrest, University Heights and North Park.

Situated on the waterfront with a slip marina, this incredible four-star hotel is within walking distance to the best of downtown. This Spanish influence can still be seen today, although the influence from Mexico being only several miles away probably outweighs the former contemporarily. Bars and nightclubs have always been a favorite meeting spot for queer folk, where dim lighting and free flowing alcohol helped to ease inhibitions in the dismal days before one could be out and proud. Plus, every third Thursday packs in the ladies during Girl's Night Out.

San Diego gay nightlife scene manages that rare balance between being remarkably friendly and also rife with beautiful guys and tanned and toned lesbians - it's pretty much a reflection of this sunny Southern California city. Gay bars have also been pretty stable here over the years, with the most popular hangouts having been going strong for a couple of decades. Most gay bars are in the trendy Hillcrest neighborhood, just northeast of Balboa Park and a short drive or cab ride from downtown.
